Technical writing is an emerging field of writing in India, which can be considered as an art of delivering technical information to technical or non-technical users in a simple and easy to understandable format. A person who represents the technical information in a user adaptable format is called as a technical writer/document writer/document developer while the documents that a technical writer/document writer/document developer creates/prepares/designs are called technical documents. Software organizations, telecommunication industries, electrical instruments manufacturing companies, etc. hire technical writers/document writers/document developers for preparing various types of technical documents for their products.
A technical writer/document writer/document developer needs not to be a programmer, software engineers, electrical engineer but must have enough knowledge about his/her domain. Apart from domain knowledge, s/he must have passion for writing and flair in writing. S/he must be grammatically sound to prepare error free and clear and concise technical documents. A technical document can be one of the following:
* User guide: A document that guides users about the process to use a product is called a user guide. Whenever you purchase a product, such as a mobile phone, software, and home appliance like washing machine, juicer, etc., you get a booklet with that product. That booklet is called the user guide. A user guide is a well structured document that pioneer end-users about using the product in a simple and well mannered way.
* Installation guide: A document that guides users to install a product on a machine is called an installation guide. For example, when you purchase software, you get a booklet, which step-by-step describes you the process of installing that software. That booklet is called the installation guide.
* Resume: A resume is a candidate's pioneer. It makes an entrance for a candidate in an organization. A resume represents qualities of a candidate. If your resume is well structured then it will attain more attention of recruiters and let you grab good working opportunities.
* Learning material:It is also called study guide. Some of the examples of learning materials are- books, online tutorials, and question banks. Users prefer a study guide, which is well structured and contains relevant information provided in simple and concise way.
